This was my 7th Birthday present from my mum and as I recall The Best Gift Ever! And a total surprise. I remember coming home from school one day and finding Albert on the kitchen table and not thinking much of it. Obviously he had just had a sitting. He was my best friend and the reason I am not a cat lover. [Tragically, devastatingly killed some years later by our neighbour’s semi-feral feline.] I haven’t had this on display for years as I a] grew up and b] became unhappy with the mock ornate frame but now I love the irony of it’s fancy-ness.
I wish I was seven again.
Cute! Can’t tell how big this portrait but it looks really miniature… 🙂 Albert looks like he has on a really cool black scarf or a shrug.
This is so cute & so wonderful for your mother to do this for you. How touching. I had guinea pigs too, they’re smelly & fragile but great pets for children. I remember giving mine a bath in winter as I wanted it to smell nice & to my horror it died…poor thing. I was heartbroken.
Oh Janelle, that is a sad story too. You know I went to bed last night and had a little cry about the whole thing. Things I never realised until this post, like how wonderful my Mum was to spend all that time oil painting, when she had 4 kids [at that time] and a million other things to do on the farm and in the house. It would have taken a few days. The fact that the world has changed so much and how innocent I was that I loved the painting so much. My kids would not a]have a mother who managed a pencil drawing of a non existent pet or b] appreciate or want it at all. It’s not their fault, its just a different life for them.
And I remembered how much I loved my guinea pig at 7 & 8 years old. He was only stinky [ie weeing] on other people, never me and so friendly and tame. He ran around the lemon trees in the day time and would coming running to me when I got home from school. So so cute. Insert retro instagram filter on your imaginings [if you care to] right now.
They are great pets but C. doesn’t like them, says they freak him out. Ironically he’s more likely to want a cat..Mmm
Anyway so lovely to hear from you, here or anywhere. Hope you are well. xx
Hey Jocelyn, no not so miniature. It was pretty much lifesize. Framed about the size of an a4 page. Albert was so cool he didn’t need to accessorise… Thanks for your thoughts : ]
