Of the millions of Flamingos in America today, only a handful are alive.
The rest are front-lawn effigies, proclaiming to all passers-by our national love for beauty.

And then there’s the soon to be introduced to my Australian garden…
The original and iconic plastic pink flamingo, designed in 1957 by
Don Featherstone for Union Products and won him the Ig Nobel Prize for Art in 1996.
You can buy yourself a set here. Get Flocked.
This impressive company refunded an overpayment on shipping. Like! Can’t wait for them to land.
You may have seen a few flamingos in various forms recently, they are suddenly everywhere. I’ve pinned down a few more if you care to look.
Tacky or kitsh? Love them or hate them? For inanimate objects they can create quite a stir.
These ones from Mitchell Road Antique & Design Centre.
Serving the best of taste.

I’ve had my Featherstone flamingos (also via Get Flocked) for almost three years (in the hot West Australian sun) and they’re still going strong!
(just thought you might like to know)
p.s. btw, new to your blog – love it!
Hi Kylie and welcome. Stoked you have found me. So pleaseD to see your blog too. Right up my alley. All that fabulous Parker-ness. And those Dansk candleholders etc. etc. I appreciate the info on the flamingos too, good to know they can acclimatise to Aussie conditions. Have you taken any photos of them? Thanks for spending some time here and letting me know you did. Cheers Sandy
I confess, I’m a teeny bit jealous that you are getting garden flamingos! Post a pic when they land?? Please 🙂
Absolutely Mandy. Actually I bought 2 sets to make it more cost effective, [shipping was a lot but still cheaper than the Aussie website I found] with the view to selling one set, and since you often brighten my day with positive feedback, you can have first dibs @ $40 + postage which is probably about $10. Let me know if you’re interested. They are still mid flight. Landing soon though hopefully. V. excited. Cheers S.
Haha! Thanks Sandy, but I’m afraid I would need a whole flock to be satisfied. I’m thinking around 3 pair. And as both Christmas and my birthday have just passed….I might have to wait a while. Besides, you may change your mind once they land and decide you want them all. 🙂
Thanks for the kind offer. And thanks Kylie – good to know they last in the aussie sun if I decide to purchase some down the track.
Sure that’s not a problem Mandy. I’m sure they will find a good home. Cheers
Yess! I love all things flamingo! My friend is about to make some amazing flamingo dresses and I think I NEED one.
I totally think you do Trish. Sounds so cool, love to see it. You might also NEED some super spunky pink feathery hat…
