That’s the lovely Kat. Local Barista. She’s made my coffee for years in various coffee shops on the Northern Beaches. It’s so fun to have company in the shop and ridiculous to have someone to say to, can I have a coffee? and it’s like the best coffee. Leftfield Old Fox. Love it. Really smooth. Not bitter. Yep like Scarface I’m gettin high on my own supply.
Come in if you can. If you say you read this you can have a free coffee, ruby chai, organic tea. Whatever.

Blue, Yellow, Orange bringing it.

Bottle or jug? Or all of it? It is Saturday…

And if there’s a happier colour combo? Show me.
Pretty fond of this lot.

Urn it.
Reluctant to sell this orange piece. It’s large and magnificent and I bought it on an awesome buying trip/mini break/ solo mission last year. It was the last shop I hit and I was pretty tapped out. Like very. Knew I had already spent far too much. Eek. But also knew when I went out and sat in the car, I would drive back to Sydney organising freight. And then it might break. And then be so annoyed with myself for indecision…

Anyway I was trying to do a short post because I know we are all too busy for words… So yeah. I went back in. Maxed out the plastic on glass. Bought it. Loved it. Still do but… yup, it’s up for grabs.

Quick before I change my mind.

Orange Empoli Italian cased bottle, god I love that faux wicker texture. It could be cheesy if not perfectly executed. Lucky it is.

Tall double cased [cased= white lining] Empoli Italian bottle vase, in that Per Lütken, Holmegaard kind of way.

Yellow cased jug. Mid century. That crazy arse shape. Was a ….. to clean, so visibly filthy inside, got a scourer stuck in there [amateur] and after a few days and a smart idea from Gemma in the shop next door I reefed it out with the bent hook of a coathanger. So relieved. Ridiculously happy over a small triumph #nerd

blue monday v3.0

This original Swedish number smashed overnight by little hands as it was soaking in the sink. No joy.

But 30 years since the seminal electronic dance classic Blue Monday, New Order announce a new album due out this year. That could make me feel better.

fler de-lish

Stemming not so much from Fleur-de-lis ‘what ever you desire‘
LA Confidential style though it totally suits the era, as channelling the ancient Egyptian symbol of resurrection, these beautiful iconic 1958 SC58 Fler TV chairs have been given a complete new life.

A professional wood job, new cut foam and recovered in Designers Guild UK ice ice baby blue Mezzola macro suede [and yummy creamy white piping] they may just be what you desire if genuine mid-century modern furniture is your thing.

FLER= an acronym for Fred Lowen and Ernest Rodeck, Jewish migrants who escaped Nazi Germany and came to Australia on the ‘hellship’ Dunera. The two strangers met at an Internment Camp in 1941, and with no experience in timber or furniture production went on to create many highly collectible mid century Australian classics, including this design, the SC55 with it’s cool paddle/ surfboard style arms and the sought after 1961 Narvik style.

Is it an incurable addiction to collecting vintage kitchen implements?

oversized and engorged utensils of a certain age?

Whatever the diagnosis, this strange bug is not to be confused with another designer affliction uncommonly known as stencilitis
of which I also exhibit classic symptoms.

I may not recover but I have the tools to cope.

she’s apples

I like apples. I’m using one right now. Been a user since 1991.

Not quite so retro cool as the pineapple but still a great vintage icon.

Speaking of vintage icons, does this one jog your memory?

iRemember this one by Susan Kare. Creator of the happy Mac, the sad Mac, the trash can and other icons from the original Macintosh pre 1994. She is now selling them as limited edition prints.

Here’s a bunch of my [not so] latest apple products.

So why are apples Christmasy? Not because they are red and green, as I assumed. [Not a fan of that colour combo much, too frog in a blender for my tastes.]
Anyway the tradition of decorating Christmas trees with apples has German and ancient Roman roots. The Paradise tree, an evergreen, was decorated with apples as a symbol of the feast of Adam and Eve held on December 24th during the middle ages. So know you know…

An apple for the teacher? The brass and silver pieces are actually bells so they’re Christmasy, decorative, functional and have a much longer shelf life. Love them.

Also love these cute perspex brooches made by my designer friend Scoops. Obviously another apple fan and user. I have some of these for sale in red and green varieties. V. sweet.

No Grand Mecca of retro Big Apples which would be the anodised apple shaped ice bucket.

They sell for crazy money. For now this will do.

anodise this

Hello.

So maybe I am crazy. Defiinitely nostalgic. I certainly don’t need to take on any further collections in this jumbled headspace but when I stumbled upon a few anodised pieces all at once, it seemed like the thrifting universe was talking to me.

Mixed up? Yes. Delusional even.

It does remind me of my childhood. Those stacking tumblers. Remember them? In a cute little vinyl case with a zipper. I passed up a set not so long ago for $10 because the cups inside where in a terrible, corroded state, then I was filled with that annoying state of mind I always seem to experience. Regret. Not for the things I buy, but for the times I put the WRONG thing down.

Why? It’s just stuff… Isn’t it?

Not so much time later I found a reasonably priced decent condition set of cups, with no case. Arrh! The irony. [Aluminium actually]

So anyway, moving on….

The red Prestige [UK] ice bucket is sold already.
The wine cooler reminds me of my father for some reason. Not that he was into wine at all, [my parents were teetotallers, whatever that means] but there must have been something years ago anodised with this gorgeous shiny blue stripeyness. It says Alf to me. That’s my Dad. Flaming Heck, can you get a funnier name than that? I think not.

There was, of course, in my mid-century decorated family bungalow a set of twin anodised bedside lights clamped onto the veneered parental bedhead. In bronze. There was also a chenille bedspread. And as you may, or may not recall, a fat baby Elvis girl. But thats another story…

So here it is. All out there for all to see. The extent of my psycho-anodising.
Am I cured? Who knows? I’m letting it go, so that’s a good sign, isn’t it?
