Coffee is a lot more than just a drink; it’s something happening. Not as in hip, but like an event, a place to be, but not like a location, but like somewhere within yourself. It gives you time, but not actual hours or minutes, but a chance to be, like be yourself, and have a second cup.

That’s the lovely Kat. Local Barista. She’s made my coffee for years in various coffee shops on the Northern Beaches. It’s so fun to have company in the shop and ridiculous to have someone to say to,  can I have a coffee? and it’s like the best coffee. Leftfield Old Fox. Love it. Really smooth. Not bitter. Yep like Scarface I’m gettin high on my own supply.
Come in if you can. If you say you read this you can have a free coffee, ruby chai, organic tea. Whatever.
I’d be stoked. Cheers Sandy 🙂

blue MOTHERS DAY CANDLE CUP

So it’s possible if I actually want to sell more of these for Mother’s Day that I should have done this post at least a week ago, but ‘as a busy Mum’ [an advertising sales pitch that makes me cringe however true it may be, juggling 2 jobs right now, #eek but #good, I am better when I am busy, decisions are easier] obviously I didn’t get it done. Till now.

But there’s still plenty of time for local shoppers and loads more where these came from. Watch this space.

I did get this done. An ad in the local Pittwater Life magazine. #yay

And then there’s these…Pretty nice huh?
Bonus cups. An added extra to these lovely vintage fine bone china tea cups and saucers: locally made, hand poured Coconut scented soy wax candles. #yum

And once it’s burned, what remains is not some bland container destined for landfill but a beautiful, functional, one-off collectable object.

This is the gift that does keep on giving. Recycling and repurposing in fine form.
And clichés in abundance…

Happy Mother’s Day ladies. May your cup runneth over.

You’re such a lovely cup

So hot right now…
Two more of the dreamy Ouchflower macramé hangers I have in stock at Urban Rustic. Handmade by Melbourne artist Phipplia Taylor. I love the story behind the name Ouchflower. Pippa’s young son’s description of her succulents…

Peach ouchflower macrame mother in laws tongue copy

So this kind of hurt; I had the perfect blue vintage ceramic pot for the Peach hanger but I dropped it before I even got one photo. In my favourite baby blue too. Was a lovely longer oval shape which sits in the hangers nicely.

Upset, I doubt I’ll find another. Annoyed at my clumsiness. Spiky little chards EVERYWHERE.
Ouch, ouch and more ouch!
But the substitute bowl is pretty smokin’ too. Don’t you think? I’m happy with it.
Smoked glass is so retro but so modern. Like the hangers. Noticed Country Road brought out some smokey glassware this year. I’ve got tons of the real stuff, watch this space…

The hangers are $120 each and I’ll throw in the pot if you like.
Smoke it up. Yeah baby.

to have some so-gorgeous-it-hurts macramé hangers in stock handmade by über sharp Melbourne artist Phillipa Taylor of Ouchflower.

YELLOW Ouchflower macrame hanger plant

Pippa creates dip dyed, to die for hangers, tassels and wall hangings. You don’t need a retro pad either, they suit any modern bohemian plant-loving home. These hangers twist the whole kind of ug seventies craft into groovy hipster beachy chic. So hot right now.

Available in Yellow, Teal, White and Peach at URBAN RUSTIC Newport. But limited numbers, so get in quick.

to make room for these: welcome Holmegaard…

Candle or vase? You flip. Double the functionality, three times the quality from the brilliant Danish legends in Royal Copenhagen Crystal.

And more on the holm front: Cathrineholm that is.  Assume the Lotus position people, and hold onto it? Or let it go?

Cathrineholm Enamel Tea Kettle Lotus green white Norway

My first piece. Can you keep a secret? I managed to buy this on Ebay listed as vintage mid-century Danish [actually it’s Norwegian] kettle. Woot. I feel kind of bad. Should I have told her it was Cathrineholm? I didn’t get it for ridic cheap, there’s plenty of cluey ebayers out there, but I did get it for half the price, or a quarter depending where you look.

So do I keep it and start a collection I can’t afford to have [the quality and thickness of the enamel is outstanding, I do see why they are sought after] or send it off to a happy new home with a few bucks extra in my pocket?

More green, with envy this time, when a few days later a lovely lady visiting my shop told me she picked up an orange Lotus bowl for $4 at our local Red Cross. [RRP between  $140 – $200] Not quite the holy grail of collecting, like buying a box of $200 million Ansel Adams negatives at a garage sale for $45  but an awesome score all the same. She said she had heart palpitations. Me too, I couldn’t concentrate for about half an hour after hearing that story. Damn I wish it had been me…

So I think I might let the kettle go, I love being green, but its orange and blue and yellow that I’m digging the most.

What’s your best roadside/ garage sale, market score? I love these stories. Seems they are a bit thin on the ground now even the sweet old ladies at Salvos get on Ebay before pricing a piece of plastic.

So ecstatic to feature on the very cool Interiors Addict blog today.

Author Jen Bishop, also the founder of the super fun 7 Vignettes Instagram Challenge which I am totally hooked on, posted this story about my Newport shop.

It’s a great read, if I do say so myself. Which I do.  And an awesome blog with a good rep. Style without the snobbery is the mantra.
To misquote Liz Lemon you should go to there.

Such a buzz.
